Dear Friends,

As a result of the disengagement, there are some 8,000 plus people, who are now homeless and without access to their possessions. As Israel's winter weather is quickly approaching this new community of homeless is in need of our help. Many of the people who lived in the year-round warm climate of Gaza
are now placed in the Golan Heights where the winter snow will be three or more feet deep. Others are in Jerusalem, where the winter cold, wind and rain will last for months. These people are simply not prepared for the weather conditions that they are about to confront.

We have an opportunity to provide a great "chessed" to these people by sending an airlift which will be met when it lands in Tel Aviv and the cargo will be organized and distributed to the proper people within
hours. Israel Homeless Association which will be handling this airlift arranged with the government to exempt the cargo from customs and taxes. El Al and British Airways will be serving as the cargo carriers for this airlift. They are giving us their cargo space free of charge. We want to thank them for helping us is such a major way. It could not happen without their assistance. All of you are encouraged to patronize their services.

The need list includes:
- shoes, especially cold weather shoes
- socks
- underwear
- baby supplies
- pants
- dresses
- shirts
- hats
- snow and rain appropriate clothing, such as raincoats, umbrellas, sweaters, winter coats and basically everything that you can think of.
Clothing is needed for all age groups, from infants to seniors. Shabbos and holiday clothing is also appreciated. Women's clothing is highly requested and I expect that applies to the juvenile age bracket as well. Cold weather shoes are really needed since most of these people only own open toe sandals. New items are great but good condition used items are totally wonderful.

We are collecting toys, games, school supplies, pencils, pens, paper, coloring books, crayons, stuffed animals, infant toys and equipment, strollers, high chairs, cribs and all other infant needs, sports gear, balls, bicycles, tricycles, air pumps.

If you have access to electronics and computers, the need for that is also of prime importance. Electronics and computers need to be 220V adaptable.

In order to make this clothing and equipment drive successful, we're looking for contacts of your friends and associates who may be in the clothing business, toy business, electronic and computer business and would be interested in donating large or small quantities. Everything donated will be a tax deduction.

If you have available warehouse or storage space so that the items can be gathered and stored for no more than a few days - call us. If you have access to small, medium or large trucks for collecting the clothing and equipment - call us. If you can help with moving all the donations - call.

As soon as you have clothing and other useful articles to donate, call and we will get a pickup or drop off arranged. As soon as you can refer an owner or principle manager of a clothing company who could commit to donating, call us. If you'd like to make a financial contribution - we're waiting to hear from you.

An introduction to MAOF
Haim Goldman

Dear Friends,

Would you believe that the undersigned has anything in common with

-- Professor Victor Davis Hanson (Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution, Stanford University),
-- Dr Charles Krauthammer, (Washington Post, Time, The Weekly Standard),
-- Caroline Glick (Deputy Managing Editor of the Jerusalem Post),
-- Jonathan Tobin (Executive Editor of the Philadelphia Jewish Exponent).

Amazingly, the editors of the MAOF website decided that the missives of the undersigned are worthy of translation and posting along the articles written by these distinguished authors.

The first letter was published without the consent of the undersigned.
However, after thorough examination of the laudable attitude of MAOF and of the excellent contents of the website, the undersigned had most graciously granted his permission for publication of his missives in both English and Russian.

“Analytical Group MAOF” [1] is an organisation founded about ten years ago by Russian-speaking Jewish intellectuals. The attitude of MAOF is definitely pro-Zionist -- unambiguously and unapologetically.

One of MAOF’s primary purposes is providing information and analysis about Middle-Eastern and world affairs as well as about Israel’s history, values and dilemmas. In addition to extensive publication activity in various media, MAOF also organises excursions and seminars. While the vast majority of the contents of the MAOF website is in Russian, texts originally written in English are provided in the original [2] as well as in Russian.

There are arguably about 250 millions of Russian-speakers worldwide and many of them do not read English. The indisputable motivation for the author’s permission was to grant those millions of disadvantaged people the grand benefit of reading the author’s ruminations. If the author is ever maliciously accused that his tacit motivation for authorising the publication was his craving to be listed along with the above-mentioned distinguished writers, his plea will definitely be “nolo contendere”.

The editors of MAOF expressed their gratitude by granting the undersigned a privilege that no other author got – the opportunity to review and correct the Russian translation before publication. The original letters of the undersigned are at [3] and their Russian version is at [4]. At of today, only two letters are posted but several other letters are pending translation.

You are kindly ENCOURAGED TO RECOMMEND the MAOF website to your friends and colleagues worldwide, particularly those who speak Russian. Those who do not enjoy the benefit of proficiency in the exquisite Russian language can find many thought-provoking and inspiring articles about Middle-Eastern and world affairs in the English section [2].

Sincerely,

Haim Goldman
