The White House
Washington, D.C.

Dear Mr. President,
Back in 1994 a large group of former Soviet Prisoners of Zion, i.e.
those who for their desire to be repatriated to Israel were forced to serve
various terms in Soviet prisons, camps and internal exile, addressed the
then US President with an appeal for clemency for Jonathan Pollard. A copy
of that appeal is attached to the present letter.
We cannot know whether that letter of ours reached the President. Over
seven years have passed since then. Jonathan Pollard is still serving his
prison term while still awaiting mercy of the United States of America
and their President.
Some of the signatories under that first Prisoners of Zion's letter
are no longer among the living. We, therefore, would deem it unethical
(and hope that you, Mr. President, will agree with this motivation) to
make any changes both in the list of signatures and in contents.
We believe that the name of your predecessor as the addressee of the
attached appeal will not become a reason for your disregard, since we are
addressing not a private individual but rather that person whom the people
of the United States found worthy of heading their great nation.
Attachment: An appeal to grant clemency to Jonathan Pollard addressed
by a group of former Soviet Prisoners of Zion to the US President in August
1994.
Signed:
Dr. Felix-Azriel Kochubievsky
Dr. Yosef Begun,
Rabbi Yosef Mendelevich,
