On behalf of the Yamin Israel Party, I extend to you my hearty
congratulations for your landslide victory. We trust that
you will regard
this victory as a public repudiation of the Oslo Agreement.
Accordingly,
we respectfully urge you NOT to form a government of national unity,
for that
would only prolong the Oslo covenant of death.
We believe, especially in view of your great electoral victory,
that you
can form a Likud-led government of at least 64 to 66 MKs: 19
from your own
party, 27 from the religious parties, 3 from the Echud Leumi, 4 from
Israel Beiteinu coalition, 4 from Israel BAliya, 4 to 6 from the
Center Party, 2
from Gesher, and 1 from Herut.
Surely you realize that a national unity government will make
it
impossible for you to pursue coherent and resolute national polices.
Such a
government will also prevent you from establishing a Commission of
National Inquiry
to investigate the treachery of Shimon Peres and PEACE NOW in the 1982
Lebanese War, which treachery Yamin Israel recently documented in Makor
Rishon.
Had you and Prime Minister Menachem Begin not been undermined by Mr.
Peres,
the PLO would have been destroyed. A peace treaty would have
been concluded
between Israel and Lebanon. Lebanon would be free, and the Hizbullah
would not even exist. But what is more, the Oslo or Israel-PLO
Agreement, which
has cost us more than 540 Jewish lives, would not have been conceived,
let
alone consummated.
Finally, Mr. Prime Minister, we trust you will preserve Israel
as a Jewish
state, hence, that you will have the wisdom and courage to press for
(1) an educational system that cultivates Jewish identity;
(2) amendment of the Law of Return to stop the influx of non-Jews made
possible by the paragraf "grandfather
clause";
(3) enforcement of the law prohibiting any party that negates the
Jewish character of the state;
(4) multi-district elections, which will not only make Knesset members
directly accountable to the voters, but will
greatly diminish the influence of Arab voters on Knesset parties
which influence is inevitable given a single nationwide district in which
parties compete for every vote;
(5) presidential nomination of Supreme Court judges
with parliamentary conformation;
(6) a Basic Law requiring a 3/5 vote of a Knesset plenum to ratify
agreements with any foreign power or entity;
(7) a foreign policy independent of American mediation;
(8) a homestead act to quadruple in ten years the Jewish population
in Judea and Samaria;
(9) enfranchisement of Israelis abroad; and
(10) a Basic Law that proclaims Jewish governance as Israel paramount
and permanent national principle.
With best wishes for your success as Israel Prime Minister, I
am,
Sincerely yours,
Prof Paul Eidelberg, President
Yamin Israel
